In 1955, a creative craftsman at Gretsch had the brilliant idea to combine the sparkle finish of their celebrated drum kits with their new chambered solidbody guitar.  The famous Model 6129 SilverJet was born.
A...nd the one you see here is one of the cleanest SilverJets I’ve seen.  Plus it’s all original and comes with some cool stuff, especially the 1957 Model 6161 Gretsch 6161 twin amp.
Unlike the Les Paul, the SilverJet’s mahogany body is multi-chambered, adding resonance plus reducing the guitar’s weight (a real shoulder-saver, the fine example you see here is just 7.4 lbs).  Plus the action is so low and even, at one time I thought the neck had been reset -- but it’s untouched 100% original. This is just one of those guitars that was made well and taken care of since.  See all the pics in the photobucket.
With its original twin DeArmond single-coil pickups the guitar sounds killer.  And it’s original down to its rosewood fingerboard (with first version pearl block inlays), to pots, tuners, arrow knobs, chromed “G” tailpiece, and original matching silver Gretsch-embossed pickguard.  Has a few tiny dings and scratches, a touch of edgewear, that’s about it. Overall it’s in phenomenal eye-popping condition. The sparkle top is especially minty, with none of the yellowing or browning you’ve seen on others.
Plug it into the included 1957 Gretsch Model 6161 amplifier, and you’re instantly transported to vintage tone paradise.  The amp is equally all-original, from its 7 x 10 twin Rola speakers to the transformers, tubes, and wrap-around grille. Even has a fully-adjustable built-in tremolo which sounds kick-ass.
Best of all, a slew of swag is included:  original silver-sparkle & polka-dot vintage Gretsch strap (very rare, and in its original box), a 1956 Gretsch catalog, an unused set of Gretsch strings in their original clear round box, and the guitar’s original grey hard case.  Plus, of course, the 1957 Gretsch 6161 Twin Electromatic amp.
Whether you are a musician, a casual player, or a collector, this set is quite the vintage haul.  Yet one you won’t be able to resist playing often.
$9, 200 for all.           $150 shipping.
