Vintage 1956 Gretsch 6131 FireBird Fire Bird With Bigsby And OHSC (Red DuoJet)
Item History & Price
The crazed red paint, red covers, and silver pick guard ledme to believe that it was a DuoJet that had been painted red. After removing the covers and inspecting whatis left of the Gretsch sticker; I believe that it is a FireBird that someonetried to customize with red covers and a silver pickguard. Model number is clearly 6131 and as serial number appears tobe 2047X (possibly 20475); I believe this to be a 1...956 Gretsch FireBird. Overall; this is a solid guitar with tight neck joint. Currently; the action is set very low; andthere is a slight fret buzz if strummed aggressively. The electronics are quiet unless you twistthe master volume quickly; then there is a slight crackle. If you turn it reasonably; it is as quiet asthe others. The original Melita bridge is in place and is complete. The Bigsby unit works smoothly and returns well. With the floating bridge; it will drop out oftune slightly with use. The tuners have been changed to a nice set of Schaller tuners. I will include an almost correct set ofGretsch style tuners that have white plastic buttons rather than chrome. New chrome buttons are available from All-Parts. The pickguard is cracked at the small end, and obviously wrongfor this guitar (should be black rather than silver). The electronics covers appear to be replacements. Two of the screw holes are stripped; but thescrews will still stay in. Original Hard Shell Case shows it age; but is still serviceableand looks the part of a 63 year old case. A broken ring finger and right wrist assure me I will notget around to playing it in my retirement. Buyer to pay $75.00 for lower 48 shipping or pickup nearMorrison, Colorado.
