Original frontispiece, in Dutch, from 1635 atlas by Willem Blaeu: Toonneel des Aerdriicx, ofte Nievwe Atlas, dat is Beschryving van alle Landen; Nu nieulycx uytgegeven door Wilhelm: en Johannem Blaeu. Amsterdami...MDCXXXV. Literally, "The Stage of Geography, or New Atlas, which is a Description of All Countries, now newly Published by Willem and Johannes Blaeu. Amsterdam...1635." Printed and elaborately hand-tinted. W. Blaeu (1571-1638) studied with t...he great Tycho Brahe, then set up in Amsterdam as seller of maps, globes, and instruments, and editor of scientific works. He and his son Joan released their large atlas (Latin title: Theatrum Orbis Terrarum) in 1635. Beautifully matted and mounted (not in glass): photo #2.
