Tiles illustrating the biblical story of Adam and Eve are nowadays rare and desirable. This example is painted in pale grayish blue and depicts the scene from Genesis Chapter 3, Verse 4 which depicts the Temptation of Eve by the Serpent and the fall from grace of the hapless couple:
"When t...he woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves"
The tile is beautifully made, measuring approximately 5 inches square and 1/4 inch thick. There are a couple of surface glaze chips (see the photographs provided) but there are no cracks and there is no restoration. This is a fabulous addition to any collection of Biblical tiles and a beautiful devotional item.
