Original Description:
18th Century Antique English Pewter Plate, Worn Mark, John Townsend, c. 1748 - 1778.  This plate has an early flat rim and shows evidence of fine craftmanship. The plate has hammer marks on the underside sometimes called hammer marks on the bouge. The plate has worn marks for; "John Townsend" in one impressed mark with a cow and a bird a part of the mark.  Then there is a second mark with "SUPERFINE HARD METAL" in a second banner mark.  This mark I believe is #4795 and can be found in "OL...D PEWTER, ITS MAKERS AND MARKS", PAGE 323.
