SMALL EARLY 19TH CENTURY MOTIF & VERSE SAMPLER BY JANE HUTTON AGED 9 - 1834

Small early 19th linen and wool work sampler by Jane Hutton aged 9 - 1834. I will begin by mentioning there is a fair amount of stitch loss on this sampler but it still remains a charming piece of needlework. The upper section of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the middle section is contains a central fruit basket flanked by a floral motif, floral urn, bird and crown. The bottom section of the linen is stitched with the following... couplet with Jane's details and the date of 1834 to finish

The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly paler in places with a couple of faint stains. The sampler is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There is also the stitch loss mentioned earlier. The sampler is contained within an early 20th century plain mahogany frame with gilt slip. Both are in good condition with some scratches and scuff marks commensurate with their age. Measures 9 1/2" across x 9 1/4" (sight size) and 11 1/2" x 11 1/4" including the frame.
