This WW2 Paratrooper leg strap is still in excellent vintage condition. You can still see the hole where this one was originally nailed to the old bed cot, but this canvas leg strap is still strong and solid though. The metal buckle and end piece are both still in exce...llent condition, and they function perfectly. I found some information on these rare straps on the internet. It goes as follows:
As many 82nd and 101st Airborne Division Paratroopers left their marshaling areas prior to the Normandy Jump, most had not been issued a "leg strap" to carry the M3 Fighting Trench Knife, or the No. 75 Hawkins Mines, or other vital gear. Many Paratroopers chose to remove the canvas straps from their bed cots. I have included a period photo which was taken right after the Normandy Jump of a U.S. Army Paratrooper using one of these straps. These original WW2 Paratrooper bed cot/leg straps are extremely hard to find these days, and they are getting exceedingly harder to find every day. This original WW2 Paratrooper leg strap is sure to make a great addition to your Airborne collection.
