For sale: one docking station (aka a port replicator) for an HP Omnibook 600C or 600CT laptop - it will NOT work with any other HP Omnibook computer.
I have tested this unit with a functioning Omnibook 600C running Windows '95, but my computer didn't have a working battery so I could not test the dock/undock transition ...with a live machine. (Ordinarily you'd pull the power cord and let the laptop run on battery power until you insert it into the AC-powered dock, and the laptop would start drawing power from the dock while it reconfigures itself to work with the dock's various ports and peripherals. When you want to undock, the laptop would need to have a battery so it would keep running when it's disconnected from the dock's power source.) I tested it by inserting the powered-down laptop into the dock and powering it up - when it came up it recognized the dock and had booted up into its docked hardware profile.. then I shut it down, manually released the latches, and pulled out the laptop, which I then plugged into its power adapter and rebooted (and confirmed that it had booted up into its undocked hardware profile). I believe this is sufficient to establish the unit's full functionality - if an Omnibook with a functioning battery was not able to make the live transition to/from the docked state but worked fine when booted up while inside the dock, that would be 100% the fault of the laptop, not the dock.
I was able to test the dock's floppy-drive port, VGA (monitor) port, and its PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports - all worked fine. I have no way to test the other ports (SCSI, parallel, serial).This dock has a LAN card installed in its ISA port (when I plugged in a live LAN cable, the link light lit up both on the card and on the router, indicating that the hardware was working, but I could not check network functionality because the computer did not have the right driver). The latches that are supposed to hold the laptop securely in the dock are not always engaging and don't feel very secure when they do; this does not affect the functionality of the dock, but I would not rely on the dock's latches for anti-theft purposes.
The photos show the docking station docked with an Omnibook 600C computer - note that the computer screen displays an "eject PC" button in the Start menu (hard to read, I'm sorry), and the green light on the right side of the dock is illuminated - neither of these would happen if the dock were not working. (The Omnibook laptop shown in the photos is NOT included, though I am selling one like it in another auction!) This item does not come with any other parts or accessories, it is a standalone docking station.
Cosmetically it has a few scrapes and scratches as you'd expect from a used piece of equipment. I did have a look under the cover and everything appears neat and clean.
I'm selecting "local pickup available" which means that there'd be no shipping charges if you pick it up in person. eBay only lets me specify one location but I go back and forth frequently between Oakland and Sacramento (Roseville) or San Jose, so if you're near or in between any of those I'd be happy to meet you somewhere to save you the shipping charge - as long as you have a flexible schedule.
