This fabulous brass microscope by "Smith Beck & Beck" of London is their "Universal" model and is in "as found" condition.There are no cracks or chips to the brass body or base that I can find. The microscope has retained much of its' lacquer and black japanned finish, however, there are the usual wear and use marks mainly to the base and stage, that you expect from a well used item of this age.Unfortunately, the drawtube mechanism does not move up and down, the internal chain appears... to have been replaced with wire and this doesn't allow any movement. There are also two replacement screws to the top.The microscope pivots sideways as it should and and the screw on top of the pillar holds it in place when tightened.The articulated condenser on the side of the stage is present and works fine. The stage has its' double spring.There is one one objective and one eyepiece.There are no cracks or chips to the mirror, but there is spotting and loss of silvering in places.The base is marked "Smith, Beck & Beck London Universal Microscope" and "2911".The microscope measures approximately, 29 cm (11 1/2 inches) tall.It comes in its' original mahogany case.There maybe delays with deliveries into the EU at the moment and please be aware that customs or import duties may apply.
