For sale is an all original non-restored example of most likely pre-WW1 era sterling silver plaid brooch as was worn by Officers of the Seaforth Highlanders of Britain and Canada with their full dress uniform. While I'm fairly knowledgeable in this general area, I'm no expert, so please make efforts to research more about this form of full dress plaid brooch. The brooch was made by the famous Kirkwood silversmiths of Edinburgh as can be confirmed by the hallmark stamp on the brooch ...itself as well as for the fact that the brooch comes in its original storage case which bears the Kirkwood company monogram. The brooch is in pristine condition and consistent with the high quality workmanship that the Kirkwood silversmiths were renowned for as the superb detail on the brooch itself can clearly attest to. I'm happy to send more images if required. The brooch 7.5 cm or about 8" across and weighs 220 grams when sitting in its original storage case before packaging. This brooch comes from what was an almost complete full dress uniform grouping which is also for sale at this time on ebay so please check my other auctions as many hard to find related items of regalia are also available. Note because this is a sterling silver item I will only post it by a traceable means of delivery. I’m adding this as it has come up in a few questions, The years of operation of the Edinburgh silversmiths and goldsmiths 'R&HB Kirkwood, 66-68 Thistle St, Edinburgh' whose maker's tablet appears on military badges, brooches, and accoutrements appears to have been from 1873 until 1915. I have not seen the Kirkwood mark on any hallmarked badge past about 1912.
