This Auction is for a SCARCE 4" DIAMETER ALLCOCKS "FACILE" WALNUT WOOD, EBONITE & BRASS NOTTINGHAM REEL.
I have been told these reels were hand made for Allcocks made by a Mr Washbourne of Reading during the 1930's. They are both beautiful and interesting reels to collect as there are so many variations - in fact it is rare to find two which are identical! Some, as this one are marked "Facile" while some are not marked at all. Generally in really excellent ...cosmetic condition, unfortunately it does have some deep marking to the drum face, most easily visible in Photo #9. Still a nice-looking reel though and mechanically fine with no play on the spindle at all. I have added a thin red coloured washer which makes the reel feel better in operation, but this could be removed if desired.
