Here is a fabulous and rare Georgian Solid Sterling Silver snuff box with a gilt lining and bearing full signatures and hallmarks including the king’s head. I love the gilt lining, demonstrating the superiour quality of this heavy solid Sterling silver box and I especially love the elegant curved edges of the box, complimented beautifully by the soft ridge patterned finish and the highly decorative scroll handle. This box has a superb strength and weight to its feel and is elegantly ...initialled, too. The lid opens and closes nicely on a strong hinge and I can find no flaws, just surface wear to the gilt as per the photographs and antique wear as you’d expect. This box measures two inches and eleven sixteenths of an inch across by one inch and nine sixteenths of an inch and it stands ten sixteenths of an inch high. It is signed on the gilted inside of its lid with the solid Sterling silver signature as well as King George’s head and also the maker’s signature - Thomas Shaw and the gilted inside body of the box is signed with the Birmingham hallmark and the Birmingham date mark for 1837 as well as again by the makers.
