Here's a rare early J.M.HAYS signed 1 gallon salt glaze stoneware ovoid jug from Randolph County, North Carolina. It is emb J.M.HAYS with a large number 1 boldly incised on front shoulder....Gray salt glaze pottery....applied strap handle....ring collar....2 incised rings around shoulder....10 3/4"tall....Excellent condition with no chips or damage. Some old white paint residue. I dont know much about this jug except that it was definitely hand thrown by James Madison Hays potter...y of Randolph County, NC in the mid 1800s
