A fine and very rare c1800 William Garrett Forbes hand wrought silver teapot.
Born 1751.
Opened his shop in New York City in 1773.Numerous important commissions.Today his work can be found in major personal and museum collections.
The Museum of the City of New York displays an identical tea service.
This c1795 teapot in slender oval form with bright cut engraved
cross bough... and leaf shield, Gothic P to one side for the original owner.Conforming bright cut interwoven leaf band and scrolling leafand geometric border work.
Cover retains the original classic urn finial atop oval pedestal.The turned vine crown handle appears original, and retains the original wood stops.The handle displays an applied "cushion", which
prevents the edge of the finial from damaging the handle surface when carelessly opened, may not be original.
This c1800 William G. Forbes silver teapot is 12 1/2 inches from handle
and weighs 22 standard ounces.
In fine condition.Interior clean as if little used.Rich silver patina
and retains much original detail.Very mild surface wear.
