RARE ONE-OF-A-KIND 1989 VINTAGE VERNON OWENS JUGTOWN NC COMMEMORATIVE JUG Westmoore Community, Seagrove, NC. Vernon Owens is a 7th generation potter working in the Westmoore Community near Seagrove, NC. Vernon, his wife Pam, son Travis and daughter Bayle own and operate Jugtown Pottery in Moore County, NC. Vernon received a NC Folk Heritage Award from the NC Arts Council in 1994. In 1996 he received a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for ...the Arts.This 17" tall jug was made as a donation for the 3rd annual fund-raiser at the local elementary school in September, 1989. It is stamped Vernon Owens on the outside of the base. On the bottom it is stamped 1989 and Jugtown Ware and signed "Made For Westmoore Fall Festival 3rd Annual Sept 30 1989 Vernon Owens". In excellent condition, it is a lovely example of the beauty and simplicity of wood-fired ware. The warm brown claybody has the traditional "orange-peel" texture created by the salt glaze process and a gorgeous accent of carmel-colored wood ash drips.
