c1875, GEORGE UNITE, ANTIQUE 19thC VICTORIAN ENGRAVED SOLID SILVER VINAIGRETTEDescription:A fine quality antique Victorian solid silver vinaigrette, of larger than average shaped oval form, made by the well collected silversmith George Unite, and dating to the 19th Century, circa 1875.
The vinaigrette features beautifully engine turned detail to the lid and base. Internally the box retains its gold gilt wash which remains at a good thickness, with a detailed pier...ced and engraved grille. The lid retains its central oval vacant cartouche.
The inside of the lid and box are clearly hallmarked as follows:Makers Mark: GU for George UniteSilver grade: Lion passant mark for Sterling 925 Silver Assay office: BirminghamDate letter: a for 1875Also marked inside lid with Monarch's head indicating duty paid.
Dimensions:Width: 5.3 cm or 2 1/16 inchesDepth: 2.7 cm or 1 1/16 inchesHeight: 1 cm or 3/5 inchWeight: 28 grams or 0.9 ozt Condition:In good antique condition, with good clear hallmarks, and a strong hinge.
