Reader, I've missed you!Over the years, we've had all sorts of knocks at our front door when it comes to the Once-Loved Dolls. Shy ones, eager ones, soft ones...So I KNOW my knocks! But this one I confess scared me a little. It made me jump! Because I could tell this was not a knock. Someone was kicking at the door! And they sounded almost...angry. Still. I'm much bigger than they are. I flung open the door to give our latest O.L.D. what for, when to my surprise I saw the jolliest face ...I'd seen in a long time! Then I started laughing. She wasn't angry, she was excited!I was right about the kick, however. As with most dolls that started out with magic skin arms, the "magic" had long since disintegrated...Meet Flossie! The Patriotic Summer Drummer 2019No. 124 Flossie is an 18" Ideal Flossie Flirt. She doesn't have any markings, but her face is undeniable. Besides her magic skin arms being gone, Flossie has heavy crazing on her face and her original mohair wig is a little scraggly and mussed (just the way I like it!). She is so glad to have arms again and wanted to use them. Summer drummer it is!My wee sister Julie would be scared of this little girl - as she is of most composition dolls thank goodness, otherwise I'm sure there'd be some knock down, drag out fights. I'm rather partial to flirty-eyed dolls. My philosophy is to do as little as possible to these girls. Mend them, clean them, and dress them up so that they can last and be loved for another lifetime without losing the signs that they were Once-Loved before. Do not look for airbrushed perfection here!Honestly, besides giving her "new" composition arms from a Giver and touching up the worn spots on her face and limbs and her wig a gentle cleaning, I haven't done much to this girl. Her face is still very crazed. Please see her pictures.I was so intent on seeing if I had any arms that might fit her that I forgot to take before pictures until I had already attached one of her new arms! I removed the cloth tops of her old arms and attached the new ones. They work very well and are nice and snug and you can easily pose them up and down and they'll hold their position. And here we are and summer's on the wane, so let's get to her clothes:Flossie arrived in her original Oneside and shoes and socks. They are all somewhat tattered. I made a blouse for her with a ruffled neck. Half of the front is dark blue with little stars, the other half and her pants are vintage red and white strip. Her hat is made from thick cotton flannel and fully lined. It's sprayed so that it doesn't pick up every little bit of lint. The pompoms on her blouse and hat are handmade. Her drums are made from the bottoms of three Pringles cans (THERE WAS A SNACK SALE AT HY-VEE!!) and painted with stripes. Her drumsticks were made with wood dowels and faux fur. Black leather spats complete her outfit.Because she's composition cloth and therefore hard to make stand, I'm going to include a stand with her. It's not super tight, but it works very well and she can march forever.I'm so happy to see you again!!! Make her yours!Announcement: Any O.L.D. going for $300 or more gets one of the remaining original editions of my book, "Hazel Twigg & the Hollyhock Hideaway" free!
