Circuits and Concepts is now offering replacement Power Supply capacitors to repair or refurbish classic CARVER M-4.0T, TFM-42 and TFM-45 amplifiers. These are pin-for-pin replacements for the 35V and 80V electrolytic caps on the power supply board of the amplifier. Electrolytic capacitors, especially those made in the 1980's, age poorly. They often fail as open circuits, where they lose capacitance which can cause hum, loss of clari...ty and "punch, " and add distortion. They can also become "leaky" and fail as short circuits. This type of failure can cause pops, distortion and power supply failures, or can kill the audio signal entirely."Re-capping" an amplifier is commonly done for the following reasons:To repair an existing problem or failure in an amplifier.To restore or upgrade the audio quality of an amplifier.To reduce the possibility of future capacitor failures and improve the reliability of the amplifier.The kit contains 4 replacement electrolytic capacitors to replace the large, cylindrical 35 V and 80 V power supply filter capacitors on the power supply board. The parts are brand new and meet or exceed the specifications of the original parts. To assure highest reliability, the capacitors in the kit are from a premier manufacturer with a high established component lifetime. The kit includes:Replacements for the two 35 V, 3, 300 uF electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. Replacements are 3, 300 uF, 63 V.Replacements for the two 80 V, 2, 200 uF electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. Replacements are 2, 200 uF, 100 V.The listing is for a parts kit only, not the complete amplifier.Whether you are repairing an amplifier for a specific problem, or doing a general update and refurb, this parts kit is ideal for getting that prized amp in shape for the next decade or two of service! The parts can be replaced by a person with limited soldering skills. A soldering iron, solder wick and solder are needed to replace the parts. Use standard safety precautions (wear safety glasses, unplug the unit before soldering, good ventilation, etc) when working on your gear. When you're done soldering, always wash your hands, because solder contains lead. Please note that replacing components will fix the receiver only if those components was the problem to start with!
