Sized 10x8 inches, bound in leather patterned cloth. Profusely illustrated. 606 pages. This is the second edition, which is more interesting than th...e first one. After the first edition of this book came out, an allegation was raised that a member of Henry M. Stanley's African exploration party had taken part in an act of cannibalism, eating part of a young slave woman (see picture). A special section was added to the book to deal with this claim. A very good copy, marred only by a tear in the last page with some loss. We can supply a facsimile of the whole page if you wish.
