Up for sale is this rare antique 2 volume set of Martin's Natural History. The books are illustrated with a cumulative total of 32 plates; 29 of them are hand colored. There are 3 human anatomy plates which are not colored. The books are overall in good condition with some signs of wear and age. It is a married set, the first series was printed in 1862 by Blakeman & Mason and the second series was printed by Phinney, Blakeman & Mason in 1861.&n...bsp; The covers have some wear as illustrated in the photos, along with some corner wear and edge wear. There is some wear to the extremities of the spine of the 2nd volume and it looks like there is a little spot of glue to the cloth at the head of the 2nd volume's spine. The first volume has some scattered underlining and notation in pencil. The second volume has some minor interior cracks with some gatherings of pages which don't lie flush with the other pages when looking at the fore-edge. There is a period inked inscription to the front endpapers of the first volume. Along with that there may be the very occasional page with some other kind of minor imperfection such as a minor bit of foxing/ soiling/ grubbiness, a tiny chip or tear, creased page corner, minor interior crack, etc. The plates are all in nice condition.
