Item Specifics: Vintage Zapotec Rug Blanket 1960s Signed Weaving 38x78 Wool Southwest Indian Art Hand Woven Western. Mexico Mexican Oaxaca Native American Antique Southwestern Tapestry. Wall Hanging Folk Symbol Woven Loom Textile West. Not Navajo.
Vintage artist signed Zapotec hand woven 100% wool rug blanket weaving. Circa early-mid 1960's. Measures 38" by 78". A sewn in patch on a back corner reads, "Zapotec Indian Art, Zapotec Weaver, Zenon Hipolito Angeles". I assume Zenon A...ngeles was the maker.From one family, this was acquired back in the early to mid-1960s' from "Prices' All Indian Shop" in Albuquerque by a couple who collected Indian and Southwestern artifacts. Paul's All Indian Shop was in business in the 1960's until about 1972. The colors are bold and uniform. The weaving, end tassles, and side stitching is strong and secure. No rips, tears, holes, frays, or musty basement odors. The wool is nice and pliable and is NOT dry or brittle.That's NOT yellowing on some of the white parts. It's just light shadows from the folds as this wasn't laying perfectly flat in my photos.It was breifly drapped over the back of a living room couch once and acquired some small scattered tan spots (slight coffee spill?) in the center edge area where it would have laid over the back of a couch. See my 6th & 7th photos. You may be able to clean these spots up just fine...
