These two patinated bronze figures representing the writers Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Swiss, 1712-1778) and François-Marie Arouet, known as Voltaire (French, 1694-1778), after the models by Jean-Claude Rosset (French, 1706-1786). Rousseau is cast with a furled scroll in his right hand and both are dressed in elaborate 1800’s frock coats, and breeches, both with a hat tucked und...er their left arm, each raised on a black marble rectangular plinth with lotus-cast bronze mounts. These are exceptionally well detailed bronzes. I wish the photos did them justice. They each stand at 9 1/2" tall France, circa 1850.Please ask questions.
