Be sure to have a look at our other items!This is a beautifully hand carved, unusual cuckoo clockthat was produced about 50 years ago in the Black Forest of Villingen "Germany" by "Bachmeier and Klemmer, " one of the better partnerships in clock making from this region of the world! This incredible cl...ock is absolutely beautiful and shows only modest signs of use. It's theme is that of a fox that is trotting its way through a grape vineyard as depicted from the meticulously detailed vine on the front and top of this clock. There are six deeply carved, large grape leaves on the front and a leafy vine is found under the fox itself. There is another carved grape leaf on the wooden pendulum. The wooden carved fox is making his way through the vineyard while an equally impressive, large carved bird snuggled into the grape vine atop the clock watches him warily; charming! There is a cluster of wooden grapes under the bird and on either side of the dial. The dial has a black background and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and matching fancy hands to pointout the time. There is a large wooden door at the very back that is secured with a metal latch. It easilyremoves to allow access to the all metal weight driven movement produced by "Regula" and bearing the Bachmeier and Klemmer name. Aweight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulledoccasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activities. The bellow tubesare intact and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottomof each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden doorto the left above the dial and stands in the doorway. The bird gives offa single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside thecase. When he's through, the bird returns to the safeconfines of the clock, closing the door behind him. At the top of each hour, thebird appears again and correctly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hoursbefore going back inside the clock; absolutely fascinating! I'velooked the clock over fairly well and only find modest use with minor wear; no damage, no repairs, and no missing parts. The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should. It is very impressive and equally so in size too measuring about 15 1/2" high (not countingthe weights or pendulum), about 6 1/2" at its deepest point, and about 10" across the top. Even though it looks pretty new, it is an old clock and we don't know the service history though the movement does show signs of maintenance. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We oftenrecommend to our clock customers to have their vintage or antique clocksserviced at least once every three years. Doing so will keep a classicclock like this one, healthy for years to come. The clock comes completeas shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a carved grape leaf pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. This clock is in a class all by itself, absolutely gorgeous on display, and is certain to be the focalpoint of any collection. Any guests in your home or office will bemore than pleased to see this rare German timepiece in action.
