MAGNIFICENT PAIR LATE 17th CENTURY PEWTER CANDLESTICKS
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:101392 |
A very fine large pair of late 17th or very early 18th century German pewter pricket candlesticks. Each is on a triangular base with cast panels of scrolling leaves and flowers, with a central oval boss, in the Baroque taste, on three large ball feet; stem comprised of three graduated compressed balls and a baluster; and drip pan with pewter candle spike, cast with swirled gadrooning underneath. The stems screw into the bases with huge, coarse threads. Engraved on each b...ase is "G.W. 1731", but these were most certainly made some years before. They measure about 19" to the tops of the drip pans and are in superb, untouched condition with no damages or repairs, and each stick stands straight. A magnificent and bold pair of early candlesticks.
