Featured in this auction is a really beautiful, vintage Rookwood Pottery console bowl or rose bowl. This piece has an arts-and-crafts lotus shape with an incised, floral motif of trillium blooms and leaves encircling the shoulder of the bowl. This bowl is in excellent condition with only evidence of mineral and rust staining inside, most likely from the gentle use of a metal flower frog, and some light scuffing. There are no chips, no cracks, mild craz...ing and no repairs. This large piece is approximately 3" tall, almost 8" wide at the shoulder, and 6-1/2" wide at the mouth. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 2145 and the production year XXII (1922). This gorgeous glaze combination is a bit of a mystery. There is a rich, deep matte blue-indigo underglaze which is the prominent color; however, it appears that an attempt was made to add a lighter overglaze color which seems to have been absorbed into the deep indigo color. This provides more of a "shadowy" effect on the piece but certainly does not detract from the overall richness of the bowl's color. The bowl is otherwise very clean both inside and out. Check out all 8 photos! This substantial console piece would be perfect for any Rookwood or American art pottery collector. Check out my other pottery listings!
