Mid-19th c. transferwarechild’s mug in black, Poor Richard’s Maxims series.  Most of these child-sized mugswere products of mid-century potteries during the heyday of scenictransferware. The saying on this one is: “He that by the/ Plough would thrivehimself must/ either hold or drive/ The eye of the/ Master will do more workthan/ both his hands.” The mug has a skip in the pattern caused bymisapplication of the transfer on one side (a lot of the pottery workers whodid d...ecorating were children or adolescents and little defects were common inthe press for productivity).Dimensions:  2.75" tall
