Published London 1741 by Patrick Gordon in his "Geography Anatomiz'd or the Geographical Grammar".... An original mid 18th century copper engraved antique map of Western Russia by John Senex.
A crisp dark impression on hand laid paper, blank verso. Enhanced with attractive later hand colouring. Fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration. Fold lines as issued, now very faint. Approx. 7" x 6" (180mm x 160mm) map area only, with full margins beyond. John Senex 1678 -1740 Shropshire born, Senex was a leading engraver and map publisher in 18th century London who became a Fellow of The Royal Society and Geographer to Queen Anne.
He is especially known for his fine world maps and maintained a penchant for perpetuating the myth of California being an island. His strip road maps of Britain are also widely collected.
