A beautiful, uncut little limbcast with light pink color and great dry rot holes and wood texture. This piece is as found, and came from the South Fork of the Crooked River, southwest of Paulina in central Oregon. This material is best known for its chalcedony and quartz interiors. The exterior shows the clear imprint of the original woodgrain. The interior is translucent chalcedony, which give the piece a nice glow, riddled with voids left from the original wood having been severely r...otted. This makes a nice cabinet specimen, as-is, though it also would look great mounted on a plinth or custom stand. I have not given it a thorough cleaning, other than to brush out some dirt and rootlets. You can further clean with warm soapy water and an old toothbrush. Although nice as-is for display pieces, some prefer to cut and polish the ends or one side to show the interior features more clearly. From a highly desirable locale to include in a collection of limb casts/petrified woods.Notes: Limb casts are formed when a buried tree or shrub branch is buried and rots away, leaving a void. Agate or other material eventually fills this void, preserving the shape and features of the original plant material. You sometimes see this material made into cabochon gems.
