This was an unbelievable cut in a truly rare and uniquely beautiful natural gem fossil specimen from one of the most collectible of petrified wood deposits around! I'm auctioning one of the best and most unique Wyoming pieces I've offered this year. It's a larger than average specimen that is half fortification agate and half fossilized log! The entire specimen formed as a result of a log decaying after it had reserved it's spot in the mud ...of an ancient lake bottom. The upper half of the log petrified and the lower half left a void that later filled with agate after it rotted away. The final effect is a fascinating and beautiful natural formation that combines two of the most collectible types of stone found. Of course we've polished it to a mirror finish to properly show it off. It's really gorgeous! Here's an absolutely museum grade Blue Forest petrified round cut from the center of a perfectly formed log that's got a lot of agate showing throughout the perfectly preserved log frozen inside. It's got really nice wood preservation with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and the most stunning wood grain you'll ever see in one of these pieces! The most striking feature in this log slice is that half of it is beautiful agate. This type of formation is both rare and beautiful - a killer piece that deserves a home where it's rarity and beauty can be truly appreciated! This is very unusual to find in any petrified wood but when frozen in time with the dark colors of Blue Forest wood is really makes an amazing display! This could be a one in a lifetime folks - don't let it get away! The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log! This is a perfectly flat slice from the center of a larger sized log from a pepperwood tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens. This is a somewhat larger than average specimen for this petrified forest, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection. It measures about 7" x 4" across the polished face and is cut about 0.40" thick.
