Interesting 2 page letter written December 15, 1881 by William Caton, an Indian Trader in Cheyenne River Agency in Dakota Territory (now South Dakota) and sent to his father back home in Plainfield, Illinois (near Joliet and Chicago). William writes about how busy he is selling goods traded from Indians. He complains how the Indians smoke in his store, suffocating him with a smelly odor. He also complains of health problems, spitting blood and ...having heart pains. The letter is written on letterhead from the Cheyenne River Agency.
