Rare Dakota Territory letter written May 25, 1878 by Edward Caton in Elk Point, D.T. (Dakota Territory) - now South Dakota. Caton was from Plainfield, Illinois (near Chicago) and sought his fortune as an Indian Trader in the Dakotas and Wyoming Territory. The letter states that he now has a trading license to do business with the Cheyenne River Agency.
