LATE 19TH - EARLY 20TH C ANTIQUE CAST IRON HORSE BOOT SCRAPER/DOORSTOP, ORIG PAINT
Item History & Price
DIMENSIONS: 10" Height x 12" Length (base) x 10 ½" Width
DESCRIPTION:A truly outstanding, classic period, antique figurative cast iron boot scraper, with a standing horse in the prone, poised position, with one front leg ...curled up, along with a brushed mane and a raised, curled rear tail in an overall deliberate, marching position. The thin profile cast iron piece is wonderfully realized, with tremendous attention paid to detail and to the features of the horse which define it and nearly bring it to life. The surfaces are original and demonstrate old, somewhat diminished black, now charcoal paint. The bottom cleated bracket, used to fasten the boot scraper to a wooden floor with fasteners, is more oxidized than the upper portion of the boot scraper and shows it wasn't painted with black enamel paint, as was the form of the horse. The horse doesn't suffer from abrasions or other damage and has simply wonderful overall form and surfaces. The horse emits an air of elegance, grace, beauty and balance. It's reminiscent of period, antique figurative weathervanes often seen mounted up high on barn cupolas and atop early new England homes. Found right here in southern New Hampshire. Just Gorgeous. A killer late 19th century American figurative cast iron boot scraper. It won't disappoint.
CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
