Original Description:
 Offered here is an antique Scottish embroidery sampler (signed 'Maggie Guthrie') by Margaret Jamieson Guthrie born 22nd September 1873 in the Parish of Carriden, Linlithgow. She was the daughter of Peter and Mary Guthrie nee Waldie whose crowned initials are featured on the sampler. The sampler measures 11 7/8" x 11 7/8" and is housed in a period glazed frame measuring 14 1/2" x 14 1/2". Unusually it is backed with gold foil paper - visible through the openwork linen in the secon...d last photo. An inscription on the reverse of the frame records that Margeret sewed the sampler in 1887 and won a 1st prize for 'sewing and fancy work'. It is in nice condition as per my photos showing fading to some of the thread colours and some chips/losses to the corners of the frame. A pleasing little sampler offered here with a low price start and no reserve.
