Very rare and fantastic, ca1890’s Native American Pottawatomie Indian Hand Sewn, Bead Decorated Velvet Tunic / Shirt. This outstanding late 19th century Pottawatomie Shirt measures approx. 31" long overall and 24" across at the chest. The Shirt features simple yet stunningly beautiful, stylized floral bead decoration on both the front and back of the Shirt with additional bead decoration on the sleeves.
This wonderful Pottawatomie Shirt / Tunic is thread se...wn entirely by hand with spot stitched, floral designs using chalk white, red white heart, greasy yellow, medium blue and pea green colored seed beads. The material is a medium to heavy, black velvet and the beadwork is stunningly beautiful.
The Shirt offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original Potawatomi Tunic / Shirt crafted in the late 19th century. This very rare and wonderful, ca1890’s Potawatomi Bead Decorated Tunic / Shirt is in very good condition. The Shirt is intact and all hand sewn seams and hems are sound and tight. The nap of the velvet fabric is very well preserved with only small and unobtrusive areas of surface wear. The beadwork on the front and back of the Tunic is very well preserved with no loss or damage but there is some beasdloss at the ends of both the right and left hand sleeve. There are no other repairs or other damage of any kind. All elements of the Shirt are original.
