CDV of Lt. Samuel A. McFall from Philadelphia. He initially served as a private with the three-month 23rd PA Infantry (April-July 1861) and later that Fall enlisted with the 56th PA Infantry as Quarter Master Sergeant. He is with that unit for the duration of the war. He was promoted to 2nd Lt. in April 1863 and the...n promoted to 1st Lt. June 1864. The back of the CDV is in his hand and signed when he was 2nd Lt. and Acting Regimental Quarter Master.
The 56th PA fought at 2nd Bull Run, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness, where he apparently was wounded May 6, 1864, which must have been slight as there only is a passing reference to it in his service record. He is present for the three aforementioned campaigns.
A nicely confident Napoleonic pose in full attire. The CDV is slightly trimmed at the top and bottom, but does not impact the image or his identification on the back.
He dies October 7, 1904, and is buried in Philadelphia.
Also included are his military service records for both infantry units and relevant pension records.
