The sword is a Koto katana bythe 16th century swordsmith Masatakaand is samurai-mounted. The blade is in Good condition and the mountings are in Very Good condition. The sword has a blade length of 25inches (64 cm). The blade features a well-grained burl mokume hada that mixes with a woodgrain itame hada. The hamon is a Bizen-style hoso-midare that is present the length of the blade through thekissaki where it ends in a midare boshi.The tang is signed Masatakasaku and dated Eisho Shichi Nen Hachi HatsuYoshi Hi, or a lucky day in the Fall of 1510. Masataka looks to have beenrelated or part of the Sue-Bizenschool which was famous for supplying many swords during the Sengoku period ofwarring states.The blade comes in original Samurai mountings. They are in Very Good condition. Thetsuka features a black silk ito and custom menuki. The tsuba is a nice irontsuba with one accompanying seppa. The saya (scabbard) is wood with a leatherweathering cover. The leather cover is supple and well-aged, retainingroughly 85-90% of original finish.Theblade is in Good condition.There are some significant nicks along the edge that look to be from usage.They are worse on one side, but do not look to contain hagire. There is alsoscattered spider rust and some small scratches along its length. There are afew small wares and the tip is blunted by 2-3mm.Given this swords history, I think this piece would be a nice pick-up for acollector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
