Theblade represents the opportunity to own a historic Shinto wakizashi, ca. 1600s, by the very famous swordsmith Tamba Yoshimichi. The blade and themountings are in MINTYcondition. The sword is a Shinto wakizashi. It is a healthy sword and has ablade length of 17 inches (43cm). It shows a well-grained and highly visible woodgrainitame hada. The hamon is anexceptional Mishina-style sudare-ba fullof complex formations and hataraki.The hamon is present the length of the blade ending in a thick mishina boshi that is near fully tempered. There are many activities like sunagashi, ashi, and a secondary hamon of sudare-ba ringlets riding along the top of the primary hamon.The tang is signed Tambano Kami and is suriage, orshortened, removing the rest of the signature. The signature and the work clearlybelong to Tamba no Kami Yoshimichi, a line of very highly regarded swordsmiths working in Kyoto and Osaka from the1600s into the 1800s. This signature looks to be that of one of the generationsworking in Osaka, likely a mid-generation. A shinsa could be consulted as finalauthority, but the workmanship is high quality and clearly from this swordsmith.The blade comes in wooden shirasaya. It is in MINTY condition. It is made of high quality ‘tiger striped’ honoki wood. The blade is in MINTY condition and in anexceptional state of polish. There are no nicks, no rust, and just a few smallscratches along its length. There is one very small circular ware alongthe blade. There do not appear to be any major flaws like hagire.Given the high quality manufacture, the reputation of the swordsmith, andthe swords history, I think this piece would be an excellent addition for a collector of WW2 militaria or Japaneseswords.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
