Up for auction is an excellent, hollow-carved Premier Grade Drake Bluebill made by the Mason decoy factory, Detroit, ca. 1910. The decoy is in original paint with some moderate wear from use including typical rubs to the edges of the bill, top of the head and end of the tail. There are a couple very small spots of touch-up on the right side of the head as well as around the neck seam likely covering filler replacement. There is a tight crack in the neck and a tight check on the left side of the bill that looks to have been secured from below by a small brad. The bird shows some slight separation at the midline body seam on the right side. Putty has raised slightly on a few of the nails that secure the two halves of the body. The paint is very strong on this 100+ year old decoy with beautiful scalloping around the breast and those coveted painter’s brush swirls are still very clear. Plus strong feather loops on the back toward the tail. Both old glass eyes are good and original. The decoy carries the “Starr Collection” stamp. This is simply a great example of Mason’s highest grade output. NOTE: We also have a HEN Bluebill posted for sale this week that is a terrific mate to this Drake. Measures 13-3/4” long; 5-1/2” wide; and 5-3/4” tall. Please ask questions or for more pictures. Shipping includes insurance and is higher outside of the USA. Thanks for looking.
