We are offering an original antique circa 1900 hand painted porcelain occupational shaving mug that belonged to a butcher with bold and graphic colorful imagery of the butcher standing beside a very large steer. Above the scene is the name of the original owner, "W. Hope", in gold gilt Gothic letters. In as found condition. The hand painted graphic imagery on the front is bright and vivid and without wear or loss. There is a 3/4" x 3/8" rim chip on the top edge ...and a 2 3/8" long diagonal hairline crack on the right side of the image as shown. The top wide gold gilt band and the name show virtually no wear; the two bottom gold gilt narrow stripes and the handle show moderate to heavy wear. No other chips, no cracks, no repairs or other issues. Please study the photos as they are a part of the description. Marked on bottom "J. P. over L. FRANCE" (Jean Pouyat Limoges). Measures 3 5/8" tall x 3 3/8" diameter at the bottom x 3 1/2" diameter at the top. Fresh out of a local collector's estate and offered here for the first time. Free local pick up in Santa Fe.
