Very rare and wonderful, original ca1900 Hand Painted Occupational Shaving Mug belonging to a Railroad Brakeman / Trainman featuring a fantastic Image of an early caboose of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad.
The decoration on the Mug is a wonderful, near broadside view of an early Railroad Train Caboose with lettering on the side that reads "L & N".
This outstanding, turn of the 20th century Saving Mug measures approx. 3 1/2" t...all and 3 1/2" in diameter at the top and the base. It is made of a high quality, porcelain china material. The Mug has a brilliant white ground surface with bright and vibrant color decoration and gold gilt highlights which includes the name of the original owner "W. B. Milliken".
The decoration on this Shaving Mug is very attractive and the colors are bright and vibrant. It is made of a high quality porcelain china but the only mark is that of the decorator which is a simple numerical designation that reads “5085”.
This very rare and very attractive, turn-of-the-century Railroad Locomotive Occupational Shaving Mug is in very good condition but does have a tight, hairline crack. The colors are bright and vibrant and the decoration well preserved and very attractive. There is wear to the gold gilt border at the foot and rim of the Mug as well as to the lettering. The ground porcelain is a brilliant white and there is no staining or discoloration. There is a 2” long hairline that extends from the rim of the Mug as can be seen in the scans below.
