Rare and original, ca1900 American Fraternal Organization motif Barber Shop Shaving Mug featuring symbols of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows including a fantastic, Skull and Crossbones.
This outstanding, turn of the 20th century Shaving Mug measures approx. 3 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" in diameter at the top. It is made of a high quality porcelain china material. The decoration includes a simply fantastic skull and crossbones with an “All Seeing Eye” above.... Above the Eye is the triple link symbol of the Odd Fellows with the letters “F L T” (“Friendship, Love and Truth”)
The Mug has a brilliant white ground surface with bright and vibrant color decoration and gold gilt highlights which includes the name of the original owner "D. Giordano". The Mug features gold gilt flourishes flanking the central image and a dark, rich maroon colored surface on the back half. The Mug is made of a very high quality, brilliant white porcelain but carries no manufacturer's mark.
PLEASE NOTE: This Shaving Mug is unconditionally guaranteed to be an original ca1900 Hand Painted Barber Shop, Occupational Shaving Mug and is NOT a reproduction, reissue or of modern manufacture but an original Mug manufactured and decorated around the turn of the 20th century!!
This very attractive, turn-of-the-century American Fraternal Organization subject Shaving Mug is in excellent condition. The ground porcelain is a brilliant white color as manufactured. The Hand Painted Decoration is crisp and clean with no scratches, scuffs, discoloration or surface wear. There are no chips, cracks, physical damage or repairs of any kind. There is wear to the gold gilt borders at the top and bottom edges of the Mug and to the lettering but otherwise the Mug is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the form and condition of this beautiful, Occupational Shaving Mug.
