First of all, let me apologize. I was halfway throughediting my photos thinking, "Everything’s going so well!” when I noticed allthe pixelation. I hit the wrong button and took all the pictures in the smallersize! So if there’s ANYTHING you need to see more closely, let me know and I’lltake a picture and send it to you. And now, on with our girl!Ithas been a very long time since my last doll. I had an idea of just who Iwanted to do, and…there she was! The perfect girl! She ea...gerly started removingthe clothing she had arrived in so that her journey could begin. My heart sank.“Your legs!” I exclaimed. “Yes, I know, ” she said patiently, “but you can fix them, right?”“Icould, but I’m so rusty. I need to get right in and start sewing before I losemy nerve. I’m so sorry…”Hereyes filled with tears. I felt badly.“Whowas I going to be?”Illfted one of her red braids. “Pippi.”Ilooked at all the faces surrounding me, all wearing the same expression ofconfusion. Of course! The character wasn’t created until 1945. Well after thesegirls had lived and loved and been outgrown by their first humans. Suddenly Igasped, picking her up and kissing her head.“PippiLONGSTOCKING!!” You’ll be PERFECT.”Meet PippiLongstockingThe Girl Who Loves AdventureHazel Twigg No. 129 Pippi Longstocking is an 13” IdealGinger marked “U.S.A 13” on her back. She arrived wearing this darling redmohair wig in braids which is most likely original to her. Her face is a littlefaded and her legs had “laddering” and missing bits of compo.Myphilosophy is to do as little as possible to these girls. Mend them, cleanthem, and dress them up so they can last and be loved for another lifetimewithout losing the signs that they were Once-Loved before. Do not look forairbrushed perfection here!I cleaned her and did a hasty repair on her legs. Is itperfect? Far from it! Sturdy? You betcha! Is it the first, second or thirdthing you’d notice? Nope! Then GOOD. I also inserted wires into her braids.Like you most likely, I don’t know much about PippiLongstocking other than the fact that I love her distinctive hairdo. I learnedshe’s very strong, stands up to bullies, has a vivid imagination, and a monkeyfriend named Mr. Nielsson. She originated in Sweden, my hinterland. Awesome! Ilooked up images for inspiration and away I went.CLOTHING:DRESS: Pretty yellow vintage floral print with ahandkerchief collar. Lined bodice, snaps in back.PINAFORE: Reversible! Wedgwood blue faint patternwith patches and a pocket on one side, and a deeper blue floral pattern on theother. Snaps at shoulders.SWEATER, SCARF &HAT: Made from blue andcream vintage 100% wool sweaters. Hat is fully lined. PIRATE HAT: One of the images I liked was of Pippi wearing a Pirate hat similar to this one. I loved the idea, and I love howthis hat turned out. I made a stencil pattern for the friendly skull andcrossbones and dabbed it with silver model paint. Silver trim, fully lined.STRAW HAT: Made with one of those straw chargers. Iunwound it and hand-sewed it into a doll-size circle, then made the crown. Lined.STOCKINGS: Five! And none of them match. Also has little cotton bloomer undies.BOOTS: Made of leather with suede soles. MR. NIELSSON: Monkey made of homespun and stuffed withcotton sporting a patched on heart.
