Superb quality genuine 151 year old sterling silver example, in good condition, (definitely not a modern re-production); a very uncommon case designed to hold cigarettes or small cigars/cheroots, with a hinged lid and push button lid opener and all-over decorated with attractive engine-turned engraving. Inside it has its original undamaged fully gilt-lined interior and it weighs a heavy 64 grams. Decorated in the cartouche with a fine period estate crest and Gothic monogram. A very nice case.Measurements Measures approx. 3.45 inches (87mm) in length x 1.75 inches (45mm) wide and is 0.5 inches (13mm) deep. Designed to hold small cigars/cheroots 2.8 inches in length.Date English antique 19th Century Victorian solid sterling silver, with a full set of English silver hallmarks for London 1868 (date letter "n"). Excellent clear struck marks on case and lid and includes the silver duty stamp of Queen Victoria. Also stamped with a date registration diamond mark and has the name of the original retailers engraved, "Jenners & Knewstub, 33 St James`s St and 66 Jermyn St, London". Maker Silversmiths initials "H.W.D" (Henry William Dee - 1867-1879). Condition Good condition, with no splits or cracks to the silver, no solder repairs and definitely no wear holes. Just has 1 small shallow dent on the bottom corner, see photos, really nothing at all bad and would probably push out ok. The hinged lid and push button lid opener both work fine and the lid closes well. The interior gilding is definitely original and is still 100% intact. A lovely unusual and high quality example.
