This is a full set of antique chess pieces made by Jaques & Son of London sometime in the 1920s or 1930s. The pieces are beautifully-carved and their weight feels great in the hand. As collectors know, sets made by Jaques & Son are the highest quality antique sets out there. King Height: 2 and 7/8 inches (Library Set)
The pieces come in the original slide-top wooden box stamped with its original label, which reads:"The Staunton ChessmenTwo Prize Medals Awarded**Staunton Signature**N...ote this Signature - Without it, none are Genuine.J. Jaques & Son, LTD., London, England."
Condition:There are several minor chips and cracks in a few of the pieces as well as the box (all pictured):1. One of the black castles is missing one of its parapets2. One black pawn has a small chip missing from the ornamentation below the head3. Black queen has a tiny chip in one of its crown points. 4. Black king has a tiny chip on the cross. 5. The box is structurally sound but definitey in worn condition. There is a hairline fracture in the top that isn't splitting, but it will require delicate handling.
