Triassic Phytosaur Vertebra From Texas
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:4512308 | Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
This amazing specimen comes from the Triassic Dockum Group, Lubbock Texas area. The vertebra is from a Phytosaur, an early archosaur that looks similar to crocodiles but is actually quite different. Phytosaurs were large amphibious predators that roamed and hunted the rivers and lakes during the Triassic. Some phytosaur species could grow to lengths exceeding 30 feet and have jaws with massive 2"-3" teeth!!! Phytosaurs are not dinos...aurs but they developed during the dawn of the dinosaurs!
This is a good-sized vertebra from the middle spine (trunk) of the phytosaur. It is a colorful piece that will make a great addition to any collection. This was collected in April, 2017.Specimen size: Width at the centrum = 67 mm. Length = 65 mm. Height = 65 mm.
The specimen has been stabilized and has slight repair on the edge of the centrum where it was fragile and likely to break. We do find larger specimens upon occasion but phytosaur verts this size are not common.
