Original Description:
A rare Thailand walking buddha. Was purchased from a private Newport, RI home. last week. It's most likely 18th Century but could be 19th century and from the Sukhothai Kingdom Thailand..the walking versions are much rarer to find. Is said that the buddha is practicing a walking meditation. This gilt is not gold leaf it's the real gold gilt like as if the statue was dipped in gold. Most of the gilt is in excellent condition with only one spot "pictured" that goes through to the bronze ...that's noticeable. Looks like it was polished and possibly lacquered years ago to keep this sheen. Southern Theravada Buddhist Tradition. A scarce example. Overall in excellent condition, there are some casting flaws here and there typical of pieces like this of this age. The buddha stands 20" tall !!!! Similar examples have brought far more than my asking price. Provenance ...was bought in England in the 1950's from a Spink & Sons and has been with the present owner ever since up until last week. 100% guaranteed to be antique. Solid cast bronze statue. Was told it is worth 3-5k
