Reference Number: Avaluer:48290392 |
O thou from whom all goodness flowsI lift my heart to theeIn all my sor...rows, conflicts, woesO Lord remember meWhen trials sore obstruct my waysAnd ills I cannot fleeOh let my strength be as my dayFor good remember me
The lower section of the gauze is stitched with a central rose basket which has a crown and butterfly on each side of the basket, a dog to the left and right of its side blooms and a heart, bird and floral motif to each side of its topmost bloom. Sarah Jane's name and the date of March 12th 1862 are stitched beneath the rose basket with a fruit basket to their left and right, then the whole piece is surrounded by a deep floral border. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in the upper section with a faint line running down the middle. The colours of the wool are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Sarah Jane first stitched it. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are small visible tack marks around the edges of the gauze from where the sampler has been tacked onto a stretcher or backing board at some point of time.Measures 11 3/4" x 16 1/4"
