This is a tooth from Rhombodus binkhorsti, a ray from the Cretaceous Period. Rhombodus is relatively wide-spanning with species found on every continent except Antarctica. Rhombodus survived the KT Extinction but went extinct toward the end of the Paleocene.
Rhombodus teeth are arranged in large plates with multiple teeth similar to myliobatoid rays. Usually the plates break up into individual bilobate teeth. The wrinkles... toward the crown are very pronounced on this specimen and it is good-sized for most specimens that you find in Texas.
Geologic Age: Late Cretaceous, Taylor Group, Ozan Formation.Location: Fannin County, Texas. Feeder Creek to the North Sulphur River.
