This knife is another that was found 3 miles west of Chanute along Villiage Creek. This site yielded many "butchering" type artifacts, knives, celts, scrapers etc. over the many years that my family scoured it. There are shards of flint everywhere as many tools had been m...ade there. This knife has been reconstructed from two pieces found at different times. My father has added some filler material to replace small shards that have not been recovered. Village Creek is a large creek that runs north of Chanute Kansas making its confluence with the Neosho River NE of Chanute. It is a significant waterway, never dry. For as many artifacts as my father has collected along its banks over the years, it is sure to have been important to early peoples for thousands of years. This knife came from a field in cultivation in the NE quarter of section 15-T27S-R17E. It remains private property. My father had permission to be on the property from a previous owner. The land sold at one point and sadly permission was discontinued. The new owner would not budge! My family hunted it for many years and probably recovered the vast majority of what was there. Also, finds diminished significantly when farming techniques discontinued deep plowing due to fuel prices. The deep plowing would bring artifacts to the surface. Today it is more economical for the farmer to simply fertilize the top few inches of soil and anything deeper remains undisturbed.
I have several artifacts up for auction at this time and as always, I'm happy to combine items to save $$ on shipping. I will pay for shipping and handling. I will ship to only the lower 48 states and accept Paypal only. Thanks!
