One of my all time favourite British Arts and Crafts brooches, mainly because of the excellent attention to detail, as well as the fabulous choice of stones. Thank you to the knowledgeable person who pointed out a brooch, clearly by the same maker, had sold for £250+ at auction in the last few years. Although I have been unable to pinpoint the maker, it is c1910 and similar to designs I have seen by the great Arts and Crafts people of the day.It is absolutely... sumptuous and those stones have beautiful blue hues. They could possibly all be blue chalcedonies, with the two stones at either end of the pin being a slightly darker blue. You can see it when you hold it to the light too. I did think 4 blue moonstones and 2 chalcedonies could be a possibility. Well, it is just a lovely piece of design. Each stone has a rope work circle at its base and is wrapped in place by squared silver teeth.Beautifully hand crafted, it is stamped "SILVER" twice on the reverse. I have included a photo of the brooch being worn, as it is so unusual and very lovely. It measures approx. 4.6cm in diameter and has its original (straight) pin, hinge and clasp. In lovely order, some patina remains on the reverse which you may wish to polish away.I will post by International signed for from here in Italy.
